Alterfin is a Belgian financial institution that provides loans to microfinance institutions in Latin America, Africa and Asia. These microfinance institutions, in their turn, provide microcredits to small entrepreneurs and local farmers. The Alterfin cooperative is also directly financing organisations active in sustainable agriculture.
Through its investments, Alterfin reaches 2.5 million people and has a huge impact on developing countries. Originally a product of a collaboration between 11.11.11, Oxfam Solidarité, SOS Faim, Vredeseilanden/Rikolto, FOS; and the banks Triodos and HBK Spaarbank, Alterfin plays an important role in reducing inequalities in the world.
