La société a connu de grandes difficultés durant la période du covid. Ainsi, en octobre 2020 a été pris la décision de donner un mandat à une banque d'affaire pour réaliser une opération de rapprochement avec un acteur qui pouvait apporter du financement et des synergies opérationnelles. Ce mandat avait pour objectif de trouver une solution rapide pouvant maintenir la finalité sociale de Wheeliz et éviter la cessation des paiements (prévue pour l'été 2021). APF France Handicap a donc repris la société pour 1 euro symbolique en s'engageant à réinvestir dans la société notamment en maintenant les équipes, et à apporter des réelles collaborations opérationnelles.

Charlotte de Vilmorin has always been in a wheelchair. Beyond her publicist career, she created the blog Wheelcome where she relates with humor her adventures as a young parisian in a wheelchair. The blog has quickly gathered a substantial of people sharing the same challenge. Directly affected by the lack of mobility solution for disabled people, she decided to leave her job in order to create Wheeliz and give disabled people back their mobility. Wheeliz is the first collaborative website of adapted cars leasing that fitted with disabled people needs. Late 2018, the platform federates 8 000 users and has 870 subscribed adapted cars.
